Loan App Checker — Real or Fake? RBI Registered or Not?
Type any loan app's name. Instant verdict from RBI's official Digital Lending App directory and the RBI entity registry — free, no signup.
To check if a loan app is real or fake: look it up in RBI's public directory of Digital Lending Apps — Google Play only allows Indian personal-loan apps that appear on that list. This checker searches your app's name across the 1,000+ apps in RBI's DLA directory and 9,200+ RBI-registered entities, then shows the regulated entity behind the app, its grievance officer's contact, and the official complaint route. An app found nowhere is the red flag that matters.
🔍 What each verdict means
The app appears in RBI's DLA directory (as reported by its regulated entity), or matches an RBI-registered lender. You get the entity's legal name and its grievance officer's verified contact.
No match in the registry. Not proof of fraud — but you must find the legal NBFC name inside the app and verify it before sharing KYC or paying anything.
The name appears on a government blocking order or RBI unauthorised-entity list — with the source cited. Do not engage; report at cybercrime.gov.in.

❌ Where “banned loan app” lists actually come from
Viral “300 banned apps” lists on social media are usually unsourced. Only three official mechanisms block or flag loan apps in India:
- 🏛️MeitY blocking orders — the IT Ministry blocks illegal lending apps under Section 69A (87 apps blocked so far, per the government's July 2026 statement to Parliament). The orders themselves are confidential by law, which is why no official public “banned apps list” exists.
- 🏦RBI Sachet — RBI's portal for reporting unauthorised entities: sachet.rbi.org.in. Our Sachet walkthrough shows exactly how to file.
- ▶️Google Play enforcement — since 2023, personal-loan apps in India must declare an RBI-registered lending partner; thousands of non-compliant apps have been de-listed.
The checker cites the exact government order for every ❌ verdict — we never label an app unsafe on rumour.
🚩 5 red flags of a fake loan app
- No NBFC named anywhere — RBI rules require every lending app to disclose its registered lender. Silence = red flag #1.
- Advance “processing fee” before disbursal — registered lenders deduct fees from the loan, never collect them upfront via UPI.
- APK shared on WhatsApp/Telegram — legitimate apps live on the Play Store with a declared lending partner.
- Demands full contact/gallery access to approve a loan — the harassment toolkit, not underwriting.
- Pressure to decide in minutes — manufactured urgency is the scam's engine.
