The letter that stops recovery calls to your family and office
If a lender or its agents are calling your relatives, references, colleagues or HR about your loan, you don’t argue with the agent — you put the lender itself on written notice. This page shows exactly what that letter must contain.
When this letter applies
- ▸Agents are calling or messaging your family members, friends or the references you gave at application time.
- ▸Anyone from the lender’s side has contacted your employer, HR, or colleagues about your loan.
- ▸Your contacts are receiving WhatsApp messages about your "default" — even one such message is enough to send this.
Who it goes to
The lender’s Grievance Redressal Officer (GRO) — with the customer-care and nodal officer addresses in copy. Never to the recovery agent: the agent works for the lender, and RBI holds the lender responsible for its agents’ conduct.
What it must contain
- 1Your full name, PAN, loan account number and the app/brand name — so the lender cannot claim it couldn’t identify the account.
- 2An explicit, unambiguous prohibition: no communication with family, relatives, friends, references, employer, HR, colleagues or any third party about your loan.
- 3The one legitimate channel: your own mobile number and email, stated in the letter.
- 4A 48-hour deadline for written confirmation that third-party contact has stopped and every collection agency has been instructed accordingly.
- 5The legal grounding, cited by name: RBI’s Fair Practices Code, the 2008 Recovery Agents circular, the Digital Lending Directions 2025, and BNS §351/§356 for threats or public shaming.
- 6The phrase "without prejudice to my rights" — sending this letter must not read as admitting or waiving anything.
The timeline
⏱️ 48 hours for written confirmation. No confirmation, or contact continues → that becomes incident #1 in a formal grievance letter, which starts the 30-day clock toward the RBI Ombudsman.
What happens next
Keep proof of dispatch (email delivery, screenshots). If even one more third-party call happens after the deadline, escalate with the grievance letter — the violation after written notice is what makes an ombudsman complaint strong.
Don't draft it alone
Loan Kavach drafts this letter for your exact situation — personalised, legally worded, addressed to the right officer, dispatched from your email with the dates and deadlines tracked for you.

Every step above rests on a specific law or RBI instrument. Cite these by name when you complain — a grievance that names its provision is handled differently from one that doesn't.
Bars harassment in recovery and makes the lender answerable for agent conduct.
The foundational conduct rules for recovery agents — the lender cannot outsource its way out of responsibility.
Criminal intimidation and defamation — the parallel police track when calls become threats or public shaming.
The privacy foundation: your financial situation is not your employer’s or family’s business.
This is general legal information about public statutes and RBI instruments, not legal advice for your specific case.
