RBI Banking Ombudsman

The RBI Banking Ombudsman, formally the Integrated Ombudsman Scheme 2021, is a Reserve Bank of India-operated grievance redressal system for borrowers and customers of all regulated banks, NBFCs, and payment system participants. Filings happen online at cms.rbi.org.in. The service is completely free — no lawyer required, no filing fee. The Ombudsman accepts cases where the lender has not resolved a complaint within 30 days, or has provided an unsatisfactory resolution. Orders issued by the Ombudsman are legally binding on the lender, meaning non-compliance triggers RBI enforcement action. Typical decision timeline is 30–90 days.
