RBI's Loan App Directory Just Shrank by a Third
RBI's Digital Lending App directory dropped from 1,034 unique apps to 695 between its September 7 and September 14 versions — a 33% cut. RBI's public directory of Digital Lending Apps (DLAs) — the list Google Play uses to decide which Indian personal-loan apps are allowed on the store — is suddenly a third smaller. GoCredit tracks the directory every week for our loan-app safety checker. Between the September 7 and September 14 versions of the report, the number of unique app names fell from 1,034 to 695. We re-exported the report on September 16 and got the same result, so this is a real change in the directory, not a glitch in one download.
First, what this is NOT: it is not a ban list, and there has been no RBI enforcement announcement. RBI itself says the directory is compiled from lenders' own submissions "without any further validation check by the Reserve Bank" (RBI press release 2025-2026/288). Entries appear and disappear as banks and NBFCs resubmit their lists.
What actually changed: 360 app names were removed and 21 added. About 40% of the removals look like housekeeping — duplicate listings of the same app under slightly different names. For example, Northern Arc Capital had separately listed "KreditBee - Instant Personal Loan Online" and "Easy Personal Loan - KreditBee" alongside KreditBee's own entry; those duplicates are gone, and KreditBee itself is still listed. Punjab National Bank (26 entries removed), Bajaj Finance (25) and Northern Arc (23) trimmed the most.
More notable: a handful of well-known lenders no longer appear in the directory at all — including IDFC First Bank, mPokket and EarlySalary (the entity behind Fibe). To be clear, these companies remain RBI-regulated: IDFC First holds a banking licence, and mPokket Financial Services and EarlySalary Services both appear in RBI's register of NBFCs. Only their app entries in this one directory have changed, most likely as part of the same resubmission cycle.
Why it matters to you: this directory is the closest thing India has to an official "real loan apps" list, and Google Play policy requires Indian personal-loan apps to be on it. If an app you use has dropped off the list, don't panic — check the app's About or Compliance page, find the NBFC named there, and verify that NBFC is RBI-registered. If an app names no lender at all and demands an upfront "processing fee", walk away and report it on RBI's Sachet portal.
